چکیده

Dural arteriovenous fistulae are the cause of various somatic diseases. For their analysis DSA is used in medical practice. However, the injection of contrast dye into the vertebral segmental arteries is a time–consuming and highly difficult procedure. Aiming at a reduction of the number of injections required for the detection and exact localization of the pathology, we introduce a new approach which provides meaningful visualization of MR–CISS volumes. Due to the limited spatial resolution of the image data an explicit segmentation of the small vascular structures is extremely difficult. Therefore, we propose a fast sequence of filtering operations and volume growing in order to separate the areas of background, spinal cord and cerebrospinal fluid. Consecutively, we suggest implicit segmentation within these subvolumes. This is achieved by interactively adjusting transfer functions of pre–defined color lookup tables with a few manipulation operations. Thereby, the tiny target vessels contained within the area of cerebrospinal fluid are clearly delineated. Overall, the presented non–invasive approach ensures an optimal spatial understanding of vessel structures in relation to the surrounding anatomy and contributes significantly to reduce the number of injections during DSA examinations.

Dural arteriovenous fistulae: noninvasive diagnosis with dynamic MR digital subtraction angiography.

MR digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is a new diagnostic tool capable of producing dynamic images of the cerebral circulation with the injection of gadopentetate dimeglumine into a peripheral vein. Previous reports have concentrated on its potential as a noninvasive technique for the study of pial arteriovenous malformations. In this report, we present our early findings with MR DSA in the ...

Detection of spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae with MR imaging and contrast-enhanced MR angiography: sensitivity, specificity, and prediction of vertebral level.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE MR imaging and contrast-enhanced MR angiography have been used to detect evidence of spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae (AVF); however, the sensitivity and specificity of these techniques have not been shown. The purpose of this study was to establish the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of MR imaging alone compared with MR imaging plus MR angiography in determinin...

Interactive and Intuitive Visualization of Small and Complex Vascular Structures in MR and CT

The spatial understanding of vascular information obtained with CT and MR is tremendously assisted by direct volume rendering since it provides semi-transparent views of the entire data giving insight to hidden structures. Ensuring a convenient diagnosis of complex vessel topol-ogy, we propose an approach based on 3D texture mapping which ensures interactive frame rates. The method proved to be...

Imaging diagnosis of dural and direct cavernous carotid fistulae*

Arteriovenous fistulae of the cavernous sinus are rare and difficult to diagnose. They are classified into dural cavernous sinus fistulae or direct carotid-cavernous fistulae. Despite the similarity of symptoms between both types, a precise diagnosis is essential since the treatment is specific for each type of fistula. Imaging findings are remarkably similar in both dural cavernous sinus fistu...

A case of dural arteriovenous fistula with retrograde intracranial venous flow.

PRESENTATION Dural arteriovenous fistulae are relatively rare lesions which can present a variety of different symptoms ranging from tinnitus to devastating intracranial hemorrhage. For those fistulae that require treatment, therapy is available in a wide range of options. We describe the case of a 60-year old patient who presented with a right occipital lesion presumably secondary to a dural a...
